My Sweet Babies

Riley is 1 week old today and I'm actually kind of sad about it. Maybe it's because I know that he is my last baby, but I really don't want him to grow at all. He is such a sweet baby and I just want to freeze time. He is a fantastic eater and sleeper and when he is awake, he is so much fun. He actually smiled at me last night while I was talking to him. The experts say that a baby can't social smile until they are 4-6 weeks, but I swear that he did. It made me tear up a bit.

Jacoby is being completely awesome with Riley too. He has his jealous moments, but for the most part, he wants to help and be a part of everything. He is in such a fun age and I don't want him to grow any more either. He surprises me everyday with a new phrase or word or his sense of humor that he is developing. He is so happy and I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family.

He's a nut.

So sweet

This was actually our first morning home from the hospital. Dominic has been so awesome with helping me learn how to take care of two kids. He is the best husband and has been so patient with me and my hormonal mood swings.

Happy Boy!

Introducing Riley Finn Speer

Riley Finn Speer is finally here! He refused to come on his own, so we had to force him out. It's a good thing that we did because he is a chunk! I was a week overdue and showing no signs of going into labor, so we decided to induce. I was terrified of the induction because of all of the horror stories that I've heard, but it was much easier than I expected. He was born at 2:21 and weighed in at a large 9 lbs 4 oz, and he was 20.5 inches long.

Riley was healthy from the moment he popped out and he is such a sweet baby. He loves to be held and will sleep really well if he is on your chest or swaddled. We adore him and even Jacoby is enthralled. I was worried about how Jacoby would react, but he's rather fascinated with "Baby Riley". He seems to get a little jealous at times and will really snuggle up to whomever is holding the baby, but it's sweet instead of an angry jealous. We are so happy and our little family is now complete!

Jacoby's Owie

Jacoby got his first goose-egg on his head this week. It's not really a milestone that I was waiting for, but I guess it had to happen at some point. I was in the shower and he fell, slipped, or tripped and hit his forehead right on the sharp edge of the doorjamb. Poor kid. It instantly turned blue and swelled up. Thankfully, he seemed to forget all about it within just a few minuted and the swelling went down that afternoon. However, I took him to get a haircut just 2 days later and I think we got him the worst haircut ever. We took him to a new place just for kids and he still freaked out and the poor girl was just shaking and butchered him. So, he's looked a little battered this last week with a huge bruise and a horrible haircut. He's still a happy boy though!

This was about an hour after he hit his head. Yes, he's chewing on the cord to the blinds. I think the kid is teething because he chews on EVERYTHING lately.

This is a few days later after his haircut. Pictures cannot show how bad his haircut really is. There are long pieces everywhere, it's uneven, and she didn't clean up his side burns or his neck at all. At least he doesn't realize that his hair looks like crap. Dom said to give it a week and we'll never be able to tell. I hope that's true.

Playing on the couch. His shirt is wet because he spilled while trying to drink water from a big cup.

He's discovered that he can climb up on the ledge in our basement. He's chewing on a teething toy.

Still chewing on his teething toy. I can't wait until his last molars come in so I don't have to wonder any more if he really is teething.

Weekend with the Ernests!

Last weekend, we went to SLC to spend some time with Bobbi and Mattie. We were supposed to go to the Ernest family cabin up Heber Canyon, but the weather decided to be uncooperative. We ended up just hanging out and it was a nice, relaxing weekend. Bobbi and I took off and left Jacoby with the boys and went to Target because I love that store and we don't have one here in Logan. After that, she took me to her new salon and helped me out by trimming my hair and waxing my eyebrows (thanks again!). Dominic has been working crazy hours and I've had to cancel several hair appointments at the last minute because he's had to work late. So, it was nice to get some "me" time.

This is about the only good picture that we got of Jacoby at Mattie and Bobbi's. He was playing outside and Auntie Bobbi gave him some beads. He loves those beads!

On Sunday, we took Jacoby to the Living Planet Aquarium. It was small, but really neat. They had some really cool animals and a pond that you could actually touch the sting rays. They feel soo cool! Jacoby loved all of the fishies and couldn't wait to see the next ones. After the aquarium, we let the boys go golfing and Jacoby took a much needed nap after his busy weekend. All in all, we had a great time!

Checking out the "fishies"

We tried to get him to sit on this frog, but he wasn't having it. He was fine with touching it though.

I don't think he actually touched a stingray because the water was a bit too deep for him to reach, but he had fun splashing in the water.

He had a meltdown after we left the stingray pool, so we had to give him a sucker to calm him down and make it through the rest of the aquarium.

He thought that the penguins were pretty darn cool.

Whew, we made it!

On our way home. He loves dad's red hat and he looks so cute in it!

Random Pictures

Dominic and I downloaded pictures off of both of our cameras last night. Our one camera has had a dead battery for a while and we haven't been able to find the charger until just recently. There were some cute pictures on there! So, this post is just going to be a random post of pictures, some are recent, but some are a couple of months old.

Ah, a day in the life of my spoiled child....he is laying on our bed watching a movie and eating dry Captain Crunch Berry cereal. I have no idea why he is crossing his legs, but it's cute.

Just a close up of him enjoying his movie.

I have no idea when this picture was taken, but I do know that he hasn't fit into those PJ's in about 6 months now. He is so cute.

After cleaning out closets, I had a nice pile of stuff that we are going to try and have a yard sale with. This cowboy hat was in that pile and Jacoby found it. He loved this hat!

Jacoby loves glasses lately, so we bought him a couple of cheap pairs that he can play with. He has us put them on his face for him and then he pushes them up on his forehead. He learned that from his mom...

Jacoby decided that he was going to wear dad's shoes. Look at those skinny legs!

And last, here is a picture of me at 35 weeks pregnant. The flowers on the table are what Dom brought me home for our Anniversary (4 years on April 29). I was posing in this picture-which means that I was "sucking it in". I don't really like to let my belly just hang out because I don't like looking hugely pregnant (it invites stupid comments). But then my husband snapped this one when I wasn't paying attention...

I think I was picking a piece of lint off of my belly. Nice.

Blogging Hiatus (Beware, LONG Post!)

I know that I haven't updated my blog in quite a while, but I just haven't felt like it. It feels so tedious sometimes to download the pictures, then come up with a story and try to make it sound witty and fun. So, I just haven't done it. However, I guess the time has come where I need to try to catch up. I downloaded 109 pictures off the camera this morning from the last 6 weeks, so here is what we've been up to!

Jacoby and the Diaper

Jacoby is not one of those kids that doesn't keep their clothes on. In fact, he usually gets upset and begins to ask for whatever article of clothing is missing (pants and socks are the most common). He also refuses to take his diaper off, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, he has decided that it's fun to play with his bum. So, he sticks his fingers down the back of his (clean) diaper and kind of pulls on it. This has created a toddler "plumbers crack", which is adorable.

Easter

Easter was a pretty laid back day for us. We had Bobbi and Mattie come and stay with us, and it was a pretty relaxed day. We did make Jacoby an Easter basket and we put it outside of his door so it was the first thing that he would see when he came out of his room in the morning. I was up before he was and I heard him stirring, so I sat outside of his door with the camera so I could document his reaction. It was kind of anti-climatic. He opened the door and looked down and just reached in and started pulling things out. There wasn't even much of a smile, but I don't think he was quite awake yet. It wasn't until after we started letting him eat the M&M's in his eggs that we finally got him to smile! Sugar does wonders for kids.

Mmmmm...M&M's.

And finally, a smile!

Later, we all went to the small zoo here in town and let him feed the ducks and run around. We finished the afternoon with a traditional dinner of cheesy potatoes and ham. I even made home-made rolls to go with! Yum... It was a good day and we had a great time with Bobbi and Mattie!

Baby Animal Days

Every Spring, there is a 3 day event at a large "Living History Farm" called Baby Animal Days. It is a fun event that you can go and see all of the new spring babies and pet some of them. There are also small rodeo's, vendors selling balloons, toys and food, and games for the kids. They also had old fashioned horse-shoeing, sheep shearing, and wood carving displays where people were actually doing these things. It's really a lot of fun.

My friend Michelle and her son Porter came to town and went to Baby Animal Days with Jacoby and I. The kids only lasted about an hour, but we got to see and pet some cute little animals. Jacoby wasn't so much into touching the animals, but he liked to look. There were mostly goats and sheep to touch and pet. There were baby horses, cows, bunnies, pigs, chicks, and even baby bears, but most of these were for looking at only. There was also a ton of people and it was hard to fight our way close enough to many of these animals and Jacoby was just not interested enough to try. Here are just a few pictures of our day.

The baby bears were adorable, but we were unable to touch them. I really wanted to!

Porter was riding on the roping stand for the rodeo. Jacoby was obviously not interested...

Jacoby thought that the baby goats were "kitty's".

The bunnies held his attention for about 10 seconds and then he was off again.

These are baby pot-belly pigs that were for sale. They were cute as babies, but I'm not sure that I would ever want one when they're grown.
