Poor Sick Baby...AGAIN!

Jacoby and I have started going to Mommy and Tot classes through the Up to 3 program at Utah State. We love the classes, but we both keep catching all of the bugs that are going around. We have been sick more times in the last 2 months than we have been all of Jacoby's life! Last week during one of the classes, a new mom came with her 3 kids. She brought a sippy cup of milk for each of them and she left them on a table that was low enough for the kids to grab them. Well, Jacoby got a hold of one and started sucking before I could stop him. Of course, the kids all had runny noses and all I could think was "Uh-oh". I knew he was going to catch something from it, and sure enough, he did. (It really irritates me that mom's like her don't keep their kids home when their sick! Why do they think that everybody else needs sick kids too?)

He developed a fever on Saturday, but we didn't think too much of it because he had just had his immunizations a few days before. He wasn't showing any other symptoms, just a fever which we were told was to be expected with his shots. A couple of days went by and he was still feverish and he wasn't sleeping well at night. He developed a runny nose and a cough, so I decided to take him to the Dr. He had a cold, a double ear infection, and what the Dr. thought to be pink eye. We put him on antibiotics, but he just got worse for the next 2 days. We took him back to the Dr. and they switched the antibiotics, and now he seems like he's finally on the mend. Sleep for the last week has been horrible! On Wednesday night, the longest stretch of sleep that he got was about 45 minutes. I honestly think that this is the sickest that he's ever been. It's been a tough week.

Anyways, the other night, we put Jacoby in the bath and because of his fever, he got a chill. I wrapped him in a blanket and laid him on my belly so I could warm him back up. I was rubbing his back and he actually fell asleep on me! It has been so long since he's done that. Dominic grabbed the camera and snapped a few pictures because it's such a rare thing.

Notice the drool...I was soaked by the time I laid him down!

Random Recent Pictures and Jacoby Update

I know that I haven't posted much lately and I haven't had the camera out much either. So, I thought that I would update everybody on Jacoby and provide a few of the most recent pictures that we've taken. On May 11, Jacoby had his 18 month check up. He's getting so big! He was 35 inches tall and weighed 25 lbs. His height is now in the 100% percentile! He is roughly 3 inches taller than other kids his age and it shows when he gets around them! I think it's safe to say that he's getting his height from the Allen side of the family. He is also perfectly healthy and happy! He's also finally starting to say a few words and use a few signs since we've enrolled him in the Up to 3 program at Utah State. We have a speech therapist that comes to the house once a month and Jacoby and I go to speech classes and playgroups 3-4 times a week. We also go to a mommy and tot gymnastics class that he LOVES! The trampoline is his favorite, and I get quite the workout with him. So, all in all, things are going great.

This is Jacoby in his new chair.

Dominic's parents were in town for Mother's Day, and unfortunately, this about the only picture we took all weekend. Jacoby was eating frosted animal cookies and shoved his mouth too full to swallow so it all came running out. Lovely.

This picture was also taken Mother's day weekend. Dominic took his dad fishing and caught a lunker! He was so proud.

Jacoby's 1st Haircut

We did it! Dominic's parents were in town this weekend for a funeral, so we headed to SLC to stay with Bobbi and Mattie and Ma and Pops. While we were there, Bobbi gave Jacoby his first haircut. When he was 8 months old, we cut around his ears, but this was his first official haircut. It was getting really long and out of control. One side of his hair constantly stuck out, he had a cowlick that would stick straight up in the back....and he did technically have a mullet. He had the cutest little curls in the back that I loved, but it was time to have him start looking like a little boy. People have recently been asking me about my "daughter", no matter how he was dressed.

So, we put on Baby Einstein for him since it's the only show that he will sit still and watch, and we gave him a sucker. That was all it took for him to sit still. He didn't seem to care for her to cut around his ears, but he didn't cry. He also looked at her like she was nuts when she got the electric clippers out to clean up his neck, but she let him touch it and then he went back to his movie and didn't seem to mind the buzzing noise. When she was done, he looked like a different kid! He looks grown up now. I love the haircut, but now he looks like he's 4 instead of 18 months.

Here are a few Before Pictures:

Haha! I love this picture! It was taken about a week ago right before bed. His hair is out of control!
Just for fun, Bobbi put Pigtails in his hair before the cut. He would have been a cute little girl!

This is the back when she was done. Bobbi put his hair in a ponytail and cut it off so I could save it for his scrapbook.
All Done!

We had a great weekend! It's always nice to see the family!

Playing in the Dirt

Now that Jacoby has had a taste of playing outside, that's all he wants to do! When Dom got home from work this afternoon, Jacoby wanted to go play. He discovered my planter by the door and how fun playing in the dirt is. He was entertained for quite a while just making a mess with the dirt. Thankfully, he didn't try to eat any!

Lunch at the Park

Jacoby and I picked up Dominic for lunch and we went to the park! It was a gorgeous day and we were ready for some outdoor time. Jacoby loved the swing and running around playing with the kids. It was so much fun, we're going to do it again today!

This thing spun around and around. The little girls were great and the one half hanging out was spinning it. Jacoby actually got dizzy after about 6 turns and fell over! It was hilarious.

Porter Pictures!

Nate and Michelle were in town and stopped by for a minute the other night. We let the kids play and snapped a few good pictures!

Haha, check out Jacoby's hair! It's getting out of control. Aunt Bobbi is going to give him his first haircut next time we see her. I'm starting to get comments from strangers about my beautiful daughter, so I guess it's time to cut it.

I know, I know....

I know I need to update my blog. I haven't even gotten the camera out lately! I promise to take some new pictures and post them soon! Have faith, I'm just being lazy....

A quick update into the life of the Speers: We have enrolled Jacoby in the Up to 3 program through USU and it's awesome! We get to go to Mommy and Tot classes. They range from Sign Language to Gymnastics to regular Story times. It's so much fun to get out of the house and meet new people and to learn new things. All of the kids are under the age of 3, so they're close to Jacoby's age. Jacoby hasn't quite figured out that he needs to sit and be still during classes, but we're getting there. I guess there is no better place to learn how to be still and pay attention. We've been trying to go to a class at least 3 times a week. It's great!

Anyways, I promise that I'll take some new pictures and post them in the next few days.
